Discover China with our October exhibition

1 October 2018

From October 2nd to 30th, 2018, in the main entrance and restaurant of the Château du Clos de la Ribaudière, discover an exhibition of Indian ink paintings depicting Tibetan people. This is Wang Zongnan, Chinese artist in the Association France China, who introduces us this month his work. This is his third collaboration with the Château du Clos de la Ribaudière.

WANG Zongnan, a Chinese man who came to study in France, learned to draw from an early age. He trained in drawing, sketching and painting in accordance with Western and Chinese traditions.

In parallel with this learning, he was also interested in the historical and theoretical aspect of art. As part of his studies, he chose to move towards the human sciences, but art remains his first hobby. Arrived in France in 2011 in order to complete his university studies, he is now a doctoral student in sociology. His paintings are, for him, an opportunity to create a link between French and Chinese culture. His paintings show his reflection on the different cultures and societies in which he evolves.

Recently, he has been working on a series of portraits of Chinese ethnic minorities. For this, he appropriated the tools of Chinese painting: rice paper, Chinese brushes and India ink. However, he is not limited to the traditional aesthetics of Chinese painting and prefers to create its own style by representing characters whose mind pierces through the paintings. His current project is inspired by the work of Mr. ZHUANG Xueben, ethnologist, photographer and anthropologist, who made many photographic portraits of Chinese ethnic minorities in the 1920s and 1930s. These pictures allow to imagine the state of mind of peoples of that time, not yet influenced by modernization and globalization.

Zongnan has already had the opportunity to present his works many times, in Poitiers, but also in Chéniers (Creuse) and Montluçon (Allier). This allowed him to make discover his production and sell his paintings to art lovers affected by his work.
