In June, explore sand of beaches on Mileg’s paintings

1 June 2019

From June 1st until 29th, 2019, in the main entrance and restaurant of the Château du Clos de la Ribaudière, dream of the most beautiful beaches thanks to MILEG and her paintings embellished with sands of the world.

Sand grains and creativity

After a professional life in the psychiatric hospital, which gave her the opportunity to manage the setting up of art exhibitions, Michèle Magnien aka MILEG, was able to live fully her passion as an artist painter.

Having started to exhibit in 2011, thanks to local competitions, her work was then noticed at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. This was the starting point of his selection in other salons all around France. Now based in La Rochelle, she continues local exhibitions and reserves an annual seat at a Paris Salon if she has the honor of being selected.

Self-taught, she experimented with different subjects but especially the sands of which she appreciates the textures. She uses acrylic on canvas or wood and inserts, in addition to sands, mineral materials (volcanic lapillis, stones, slates). This allows her to produce diversified graphic compositions. The sands never cover the entire support, the acrylic being the basis of her work. MILEG has been a sands collector for a long time, the sands used come from all over the world and their natural colors are preserved despite their inclusion in acrylic bases of similar nuances.

Artistic approach

MILEG likes to propose original compositions. Thus, raw materials and landscapes from different countries are mixed on her canvases.

The baobab has become one of her favorite themes after a trip to Senegal. Thanks to the symbolism of this “upside down tree”, the artist expresses the link between heaven and earth, visible and invisible, a true red thread of his works. This tree is for her an inexhaustible source of inspiration and questioning. That’s why for some time, her baobabs come to life and become little characters half-human, half-plant that retain their aerial branches without forgetting their earthly roots.
