Giants of the sky - Chauvigny
Overlooking the city of Chauvigny, the Bishops’ Castle and its walls full of history offer an exceptional setting to the practice of falconry, ancestral art. You’ll be amazed at this wonderful show – birds from all round the world fly over the ruins of the Bishops’ Castle. Discover kookaburras from Australia, snowy owls, great horned owls, white storks, condors, American parrots, eagles and vultures. You will be amazed by eagles and falcons flying over your head.
Monkey valley
Discover the largest concentration of chimpanzees in Europe. Meet 34 primate species in a place where more than 450 animals roam within 18 hectares of a natural wooded park area. Chimpanzees, and the largest gorilla colony in France. Watch feeding-times throughout the day. Since it opened, Monkey Valley has seen over 700 births. Discover what goes on behind the scenes at the Valley as various exhibits show you what happens when a new monkey arrives, teach you about their everyday routine, and discuss research conducted at this site. A film also shows the birth of Kwanza – one of the 5 baby gorillas born in the Monkey Valley! There is a mini-farm too, where the children can pet goats and sheep. Game and snack areas.
Crocodile Planet
Situated in Civaux thirty kilometres away from Poitiers and to the south-east, Crocodile Planet is a big glass dome which is 20 metres high and 5 000 m2. Discover the six tanks shelter a collection of approximately 200 species which come from all the different continents : crocodiles, alligators, caimans or gavials.
