In December and January, discover the world in watercolor with Laure Martin Le Mével
1 December 2018From December 1st of 2018, until January 31st, 2019, in the main entrance and restaurant of the Château du Clos de la Ribaudière, discover the exhibition of Laure Martin Le Mével : she invites us into the romantic and colorful world of watercolor.
A passion for art from childhood
With her grandparents painters, Laure Martin Le Mével, used to live in the midst of turpentine odors. She spent hours on the beach with her grandmother, a pencil in her hands, while she taught her how to see all these colors in the sea. Consequently, she gradually apprehended different styles and media. First attracted by the raw and volatile character of charcoal, she appreciates the unfinished and full of promise that the sketch preserves.
From notebooks to notebooks, she has experimented with different subjects: animals, landscapes, caricatures… At 16, she tries other techniques: oil like her grandmother, acrylic as her grandfather. Then, she discovered watercolor, or more exactly watercolor “in the wet”. She was fascinated by this ability of colors to move in water, this constant instability of the canvas whose boundaries are only partially defined. When she starts painting, she never knows what her final work will look like. To paint in the wet is to accept losing control, leaving a part to uncertainty and chance. It is also opening up to the dream and let talk about your feelings.
If she has now resumed the desire to paint with oil and acrylic, she continues to marvel each time she sees the color spread in the heart of the water of a watercolor. She published a children’s book, illustrated with watercolors (Nine Cat Lives, October 2016, KDP Publishing) and makes regular exhibitions all around France. She has also won many awards, including national and regional competitions in 2016 and 2017.
